CAYUGA, ONTARIO (November 4, 2019) – The Haldimand River Cats PeeWee BB female hockey team will be playing a special Remembrance Day hockey game in honour of all who have served their country in a military or first responder role.

The River Cats are part of the Lower Lakes Female Hockey Association playing in the 12-13 year old age group.  The team has purchased a set of commemorative camo-styled jerseys in honour of the event.

The upcoming game is scheduled for 5:30 pm on November 9 at the Cayuga Memorial Arena and admission is free.

This year the coaching staff has asked each player along with her family to choose an individual that has served in the forces or as a front-line first responder and play the game in honour of the person chosen.

Each person chosen will be recognized over the public address system and included in the programs that will be printed for the game.

This year the River Cats' opponent is the Buffalo Bisons from New York State.

They will be raising proceeds for the Air Cadet League of Canada in Dunnville, the Harvard 611 Air Cadet Squadron. The Air Cadet League of Canada  is a group of young Canadians aged 12 to 18 participating in a variety of fun, challenging and rewarding activities and learn valuable life and work skills such as teamwork, leadership and citizenship.

The event will include: poppies for sale, an opportunity for donations, a 50/50 draw, a “chuck a puck” contest for kids, player introductions, the colour guard a live rendition of O’ Canada and the Star Spangled Banner, introduction of special quests, the ceremonial puck drop and a fun game of hockey.

Both the coaching staff and association for the River Cats strongly believe it is important to insure that our future generations never forget the sacrifice that so many gave for our freedom and safety.

Everyone is welcome and all involved look forward to this memorable event.
