At the conclusion of each season we are proud to recognize our players, coaches and members who have gone above & beyond that year. It is important to honour those among us that demonstrate excellence, dedication and sportsmanship.
Members are welcome to nominate those who excel in and for our sport, as well as to thank those coaches and volunteers who contribute that little bit extra.

Jeff Shurr Memorial - The Jeff Shurr Memorial Award recognizes a player from each U13 team who consistently puts forth a positive effort and attitude, is respectful and encourages others. This player is an overall great person and player.
RiverCats Excellence Award - This award recognizes a player/goaltender from each team who displays the excellent characteristics of team spirit, leadership, athleticism and coachability.
RiverCats Goalie the Year - Acknowledging a goalie from both the HL and Rep program who demonstrate the following
RiverCats Leadership Award - The Leadership award will recognize the ability of a player within HGHA to lead her team. This player may not necessarily be the best player on her team, but is a positive influence, motivating teammates with positive words or actions.
Coaching Staff of the Year Award - recognizing both a HL & Rep Head Coach &/or Staff who demonstrate the following criteria:
RiverCats Volunteer of the Year - Haldimand Girls Hockey runs on volunteers and everyone’s time and efforts are always appreciated.
The recipient should be someone who personifies what being a volunteer is all about. Their selfless commitment to our athletes, the game of hockey and our community serves as an inspiration to others. Examples could include a board member, coach, manager, referee or any other HGHA volunteer who has contributed significantly.
RiverCats Scholarship - Open to U18 players who are pursing post secondary education.
The recipient(s) must exhibit qualities on and off the ice that model the spirit of a team player. Examples are included but not limited to, dedication, hard work, tenacious, putting others before self, volunteer work within the HGHA, volunteer work within their community. Currently a player or a member of the coaching staff of a team within the HGHA. Minimum of the last 2 consecutive years with the HGHA as a player and or a member of the coaching staff prior to the receipt of the award and a total of three years with the HGHA.
Applicants should submit one email containing
- a 1 page letter outlining why they are deserving.
- a letter of reference from a current or former HGHA Coach supporting this application
- a copy of their transcript.
The award may be given to more than one recipient. If more than one recipients are granted the award, the amount is to be divided evenly.
